Feb 13, 2026
The marketing world is full of successful stories, but the journeys behind them are rarely told. Sky Society took the mission to bring women in marketing to share their experience and journey in their careers.
The podcast is designed for the girlies to take an inside look at the marketing world and learn about the lives of these wonderful women that are running the industry and leading their companies to success within the beauty, food, or sports field.
Sharing these stories will hopefully bring inspiration and extra knowledge of how the marketing field is running nowadays and what tools these women in marketing used to get them to where they are and achieve success.
These are not polished corporate narratives; these are honest conversations, and you will be able to explore some important takeaways that these wonderful women in marketing have been able to share with the Sky Society team.
Women In Marketing Takeaway #1 : Career Paths Aren't Linear

Sydney Blakes, Brand Marketing at Béis, is one of the guests in the Sky Society podcast where she shared on her episode how she changed careers and was not clear about her path from the start. She started studying journalism and switched to general women's studies.
Even though she was majoring in fields very different from marketing, she was able to understand there's always a takeaway and something to learn from what you are studying.
For example, thanks to general women's studies, she was able to understand people and their behaviors, and how this translates very well with what she does, which is storytelling and connecting with the audience.
She also shared how she thought her path was going to take her to teaching until a friend asked for her help to manage her brand, and she decided to take the opportunity. Thanks to this, she was able to gain field experience and learn things that can't be taught in a classroom.
Sydney's big advice to people starting their career or might be feeling a little lost is to not be too proud of the process; the journey can be a little messy to get to where you want to be. Take every opportunity as a learning experience that can help you develop transferable skills for the future, and say "yes" to every opportunity.
Women In Marketing Takeaway #2 : Build Your Network & Make Connections

Learning from your mistakes and knowing the power of connection is what Kylie Daniel- Diehl shared and recommended in her episode to the marketing girlies.
Kylie runs the Global Influencer & Communication Strategy at Amika and shared a little about her story. She encouraged people to not be afraid to make mistakes; she explained that if you wait for someone else to approve instead of taking initiative due to worrying about messing up, it won't allow you to grow and learn.
Kylie also mentioned the importance of connection and how just being around the industry can help you grow no matter the position. No matter what department you are in, be open to making connections with experts in the field, express your interest, and show your resume to them.
Make sure it demonstrates metrics and KPIs; results and numbers is where people reviewing your material will focus. She even said that is something she personally does when evaluating resumes.
If there is a company that you are trying to reach out to, she advised from experience to connect with them on LinkedIn and check who are the people working in the HR department. Look for people on the team and try to reach out to them. "You could be surprised at the response."
When reaching out, express why you want to switch to that brand or department. Share your interest so those reading your message can have more context about you. That way they can have a better idea of what you would like to achieve and create, allowing you to build a grounded connection instead of sending a general message.
Even when there are no open positions, Kylie recommended staying proactive. Even when there are no available roles in a company you would like to be part of, continue nurturing the connections you are creating on LinkedIn. That way when a new opportunity comes up, you can take advantage of it by already knowing someone at the company.
Women In Marketing Takeaway #3 : Say "Yes" to Every Opportunity

Jasmine Torres is another powerful woman in marketing that wanted to share during her episode the importance of always taking advantage of every opportunity by saying "yes" and leading them with passion. That's what allowed her to learn and become a Senior Manager, Community Growth + Partnerships at Milk Makeup.
By taking internships, she was able to express her interest and curiosity in the beauty industry and suggested to always be open to learning. "Be a sponge; the industry is constantly changing."
She also expressed how taking jobs that connected her to different areas of the industry helped her gain extra knowledge and feel more connected to consumers. She shared that she worked at Sephora as a cashier allowing her to understand what consumers wanted and needed in the beauty space.
"Do not have tunnel vision." Jasmine commented that having an idea of what you would like to do is important, but be open to different opportunities.
Let people from your team know your goals and passions and what you are curious about. Thanks to these techniques, she was able to switch departments and work on the influencer side of the business.
By being open to new opportunities, it allows you to build your resume and provide diversity in the field of marketing. Each role that you take helps you craft and tell a different story and learn how to reach out to an audience.
Women In Marketing Takeaway #4: Beat The Impostor Syndrome

Sometimes entering a new industry that you have not been part of can be intimidating, but do not let fear control you. There are skills you possess that can translate to the needs of the new industry you would like to be part of.
Beatriz Lopez during her episode shared her experience of how she became the Director, Digital & Multicultural of the marketing team for the Red Sox without having a background in sports.
During her journey while Beatriz was finding her passion for Digital Marketing, she documented and shared her progress on LinkedIn, which allowed her to gain visibility, and that's how the Red Sox team came across her profile and contacted her to apply for the position they were looking to fill.
Her content was based on the achievements she was accomplishing in her job as a first hire in a new department at her previous company. This allowed her to document and showcase her hard work and how her department was growing thanks to her efforts.
Beatriz also mentioned that when transitioning to a field that you have not been in before or is different from what you were previously doing, to lead with honesty. Ask the questions that need to be asked with no fear; this will show your team your interest in the role. Don't be afraid of doing your own research and be open to continuing to learn.
She also encouraged not stopping networking. Making connections helps you learn from people running the industry you are new to.
Her big takeaway is to rely on your transferable skills. Look at what the positions in the industry you are trying to enter are looking for and see how that adapts to your experience instead of making it about your background in the field you are trying to enter.
The Big Takeaway From These Women In Marketing
